Feeding Homeless in Oldham County Ky
This time of year brings many opportunities to receive and give gifts in your family. This giving spirit can also be extended to those in our community. We compiled a list of ways families can serve in and donate to the Oldham County area (and beyond) this holiday season. Know of another great service opportunity in the Oldham County area? Thanksgiving
Highpoint-Mission Crestwood:
This organization is always collecting and donating food items to Oldham County and surrounding area. Help distribute Thanksgiving boxes on 11/20 & 11/21.
Toys
Toys for Tots:
Drop off a new unwrapped toy at these businesses: 146 Salon & Spa (by 12/9) in Crestwood, The Treasured Child (by 12/7) in LaGrange, All About Kids in Crestwood. Donate a new toy and receive a pass for free open play. One pass per child. (Please let us know of more drop off locations.)
Saint John Barrel Ministry:
This collection at Saint John United Methodist Church in Prospect provides toys and gifts for Fort Knox children. Donations should be dropped off by 11/18.
Oldham County Red Cross Christmas Program:
Contact their office to adopt a family. Collect or buy new presents for this family and drop them off at the Buckner office. 502-222-0308
Mission Crestwood Christmas Store at the Closet:
This organization is looking for NEW gift items for their Christmas Store at the Closet. Donated items can be dropped off before December 1st at Crestwood Baptist Church. There is a list of items they are looking for on their Facebook page.
Food
The Barry Stoess Memorial Christmas Food Basket Program:
The South Oldham Interchurch Council will be collecting these items for 300 families: canned and boxed goods, peanut butter and jelly as well as soap shampoo and toothpaste from 11/4-12/15. They also need cash donations to purchase hams, bread, milk, apples and potatoes. Baskets are filled December 12/6-8 and 12/12-15 from 6-8 PM at the old Tri County Ford Building in Buckner. They need help sorting and packing. After packing, 4 boxes of food are delivered to each family on Saturday, 12/17 beginning at 8:30AM. The collecting, packing and delivering is a great opportunity for families and groups of all ages to serve together.
Blessings in a Backpack:
Contact your local elementary school and ask how you can donate food items to their school's program. This program provides food on the weekends for elementary school children.
Oldham County Red Cross Dare to Care Food Bank:
This organization provides food boxes for Oldham County families throughout the entire year. Donations can be made at their Buckner location.
Scouting for Food:
Local Boy Scout groups are collecting non-perishable food items in November. Some residents might have received a notice in their mailbox about pick up dates in local neighborhoods. Contact your local Boy Scout Troop for additional drop off locations or ways to donate.
Mission Crestwood:
This organization collects and donates food items to the Oldham County community throughout the year. Drop off non-perishables at Crestwood Baptist Church.
Other
Hope Health Clinic:
Monetary donations can be made through their Facebook page or website to help serve the uninsured and under-insur
Crossroads Pregnancy Resource Center:
Monetary donations can be made online or at their location in LaGrange. Other infant and toiletry items are also needed.
Good News Homes:
Good News Homes is a transitional housing ministry for those families that are homeless in our community. They are a small non-profit that strives to assist homeless families in the Oldham / Trimble County area. Listed here are ways you can volunteer or donate to the program.
First Responders:
Don't forget about the men and women that work hard to serve and protect our Oldham County community! Organize a group of friends to create care packages, bake cookies, serve them a meal or send them a letter of appreciation. These are all easy ways to get your younger children involved in serving and to personally meet those that are protecting our community!
Baptist Health LaGrange Coat Drive:
Donate gently used or new coats to benefit Wayside Christian Mission. There is a donation barrel in the cafeteria. Collection dates are 11/14-17. (Please let us know of more drop off locations.) Many Fire Stations are also collecting coats for the community.
Holidays for Heroes Program:
Write a letter of appreciation to military members and veterans living in our community through the Red Cross' Holidays for Heroes Program. Contact your local Red Cross agency for details.
Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign:
This is a great way for adults and children to have fun together and serve at the same time. Ring bells outside area businesses while collecting donations for the Salvation Army.
Salvation Army Angel Tree Program:
Shop for presents and donate them to local children. Pick up an angel at local Kroger stores or at Oxmoor Mall and Mall St. Matthews. You can also browse the list of children online and sign up to adopt an angel through the website.
Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child:
National Collection week is 11/14-21. Search your area for local drop off locations. You can also build a shoebox online.
